Sorbian Weaving Workshop Museum
The Sorbian weaving workshop was opened by the ethnologist and folk artist Lotar Balke in 1982. The folkloric museum illustrates the life and customs of Sorbs and the town history of Drebkau, with a particular focus on regional crafts. Original furniture, textiles and other items bring the region’s history back to life. In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are special exhibitions dedicated to special regional aspects, art and Sorbian / Wendish customs.
The musuem’s particular highlight is the collection of around 3,200 Easter eggs from more than 50 countries. The entire egg collection is on display every year, for six weeks around Easter. In addition to this, there are Easter egg markets and annual art competitions with prizes awarded for the most beautiful Easter eggs. Group workshops in “Easter egg design” using Sorbian / Wendish techniques are also available. The museum shop is open all year round.
