To the glass boulders into the Buck’sche Schweiz
The cycle tour to Buck'sche Schweiz is a particular pleasure for nature lovers. On the way in the three-hectare area natural monument south of Lake Senftenberg, you cycle through seemingly endless forests that attract many hikers and runners and are said to be rich in mushrooms. Before that, the route leads past the fairytale castle in Hohenbocka, which was built more than 100 years ago. A little later you reach the 30-metre-high observation tower on the Prossenberg, which offers a magnificent panoramic view. At the foot of the mountain are the so-called rocks of glass. The bizarre two to three metre high sandstone rocks made of hardened glass sand offer an ideal picnic spot. They are reminiscent of the rock formations in Saxon Switzerland. The fine quartz sand has been mined in the area since the 19th century and used to make colourless glass. The tour then continues to Lake Senftenberg. Here, the 31-metre-high Leaning Tower guarantees the best views of the crystal-clear water, the nature reserve island in the lake and the dense pine forests. With an angle of inclination of 10 degrees, the tower is more leaning than its counterpart in Pisa.
TIP: A stop to cool off is worthwhile on hot days at Lake Senftenberg. The wide sandy beach at Großkoschen offers family bathing fun. The little ones splash around in the shallow water and build blob castles, while the grown-ups bask in the sun. The sunbathing lawns offer space to play, relax and enjoy a picnic.
