Lake Graureihersee
Lake Graureihersee was created on the site of the former open-cast mine Werminghoff I, very close to Knappenrode Energy Factory. The old presses, dryers and sieves are switched on three times a day. You can experience this ‘shift change’ on a factory discovery tour.
The lake takes its name from the hundreds of breeding pairs of one of Germany’s largest colony of grey herons (Graureiher), which existed here ten years ago.
